My team and I are thrilled to have been honoured by the Tourism and Hospitality Counsel of South Africa at the 3rd annual Luxe Restaurant Awards in three categories: Culinary Pioneer, Restaurant of the Year (Restaurant Klein JAN) and Chef of the Year.
The intimate awards ceremony was hosted on 8 June 2021 at the AURUM restaurant within The Leonardo – Africa’s tallest skyscraper. It was a celebration of the finest contributions to the South African restaurant industry, with categories ranging from fine dining restaurants and food trucks to coffee shops and service excellence.
Jill Pruett (Executive Finance, Nionova), Arnold Meyer (Executive Chairman, Nionova), Nox Ntshaba (Custodian, Oppenheimer Generations), Jan Hendirk van der Westhuizen and Julia Pretorius (Chief Operations Officer, JAN Group South Africa)
I’m really proud of my teams at Restaurant Klein JAN and JAN Innovation Studio, whom I share the honour with. I stand humbled. The last year has been exceptionally challenging for our industry. We’ve had to pivot our strategies and really push our creativity to sustain ourselves, and we’ve also put great effort into pioneering the way we use local ingredients. The support from all over has been overwhelming.
With the launch of Restaurant Klein JAN at Tswalu Kalahari – one of South Africa’s leading private game reserves – in April 2021, and the establishment of JAN Innovation Studio in Cape Town, we’ve returned to home soil.
