Introducing the JAN Store in Cape Town
There’s just something about the tactile experience of shopping in person that I’ll never grow tired of. Whether it’s strolling the Cours Saleya or brocante shops in Nice, searching for the perfect fresh produce or sourcing new linen and tableware for my restaurants, the act of shopping engages all my senses – the smell when you walk into a space, the sound, the design and layout – it all plays a role, and when it all comes together in perfect harmony, I feel inspired.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not without a little online shopping addiction, but I firmly believe there’s still a place for brick-and-mortar experiences. Some of my most memorable stores are those that I stumbled across while ambling the streets of cities all over the world, letting my instincts guide me as I went. Window shopping has sadly become a rarity in the world of instant gratification and algorithms, but there’s just something about a well-put-together display that speaks to inspiration and curation in a way that can still draw me through a store door to see what treasures might be hiding inside.
Getting to feel things with my own hands and – engaging all my senses – has a way of inspiring confidence in my purchases, and there’s just something about crossing the threshold with a full shopping bag of new treats that can really make you feel like a child leaving a toy store.
In the spirit of celebrating the in-person shopping experience, I am opening my own JAN Store in beautiful Cape Town! Situated alongside our beautiful JAN Innovation Studio at 87 Kloof Street in the Mother City, our store will be open for walk-ins and is filled with spectacular JAN products ranging from my coveted collection of journals and cookbooks to bespoke JAN cookware, glassware, linens and much more.
The JAN Collection has been designed and curated with the utmost care and the goal of allowing buyers to experience joy, creativity and beauty in their own homes. My hope for the new JAN Store is that shoppers can experience our products first-hand while exploring our growing range.
