Golden Rice Milk 


It’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and the perfect excuse to indulge in a delicious (and healthy) hot drink!  On the menu? Golden Rice Milk. Now, it may sound like the latest trendy fad, but this gold-coloured drink has some history to it.

You see Golden Milk is a beloved tradition that has transcended generations, originating from the rich culinary heritage of India. This golden elixir, now enhanced with the addition of rice, becomes a protein-rich, antioxidant treasure. Its vibrant turmeric hue not only delights the eyes but also fortifies the immune system. Golden Rice Milk

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cooking Time: 10 minutes | Serves: 1


55g Spekko Saman Rice
600ml coconut milk
1 stick whole cinnamon
2 cardamom pods
3 whole cloves
3cm piece ginger
5ml ground turmeric



Grind the whole spices and ginger

Add the ground spice mix, turmeric and rice to a saucepot with 400ml coconut milk

Bring to a medium simmer for 8 minutes

Remove from the heat, blend till smooth

Strain the latte through a muslin cloth

Place the latte back on the stove, add in the remaining coconut milk and heat up

Remove from the heat, pour into cups

Sweeten with honey

Replace the 200ml coconut milk with water if you want a less rich drink. Grind over some black pepper at the end. This also helps aid digestion
